& Flying

UH-1D.png

James C. Downing Jr. tells about his dramatic missions as a young combat helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. He includes memories of his formative years and how his childhood experiences shaped his character, patriotism and love of flying. He was among the "The Second Team" that arrived as replacement pilots who helped pioneer the art of helicopter warfare in the U.S. Army. The stories he shares feature tragic loss, mishaps, humor, heroic acts of valor, and the Providence he personally experienced as a man of great faith.

“Downing demonstrates resilience and steadfast devotion to his guiding principles.”
